The transcript below is from the video “5 Blocks You Need To Know | Wing Chun Master Wong” by Master Wong.

Master Wong:

We’ll mention this. Okay. Now we got to remember close and close. He hooked me and was here. And be here. So that’s the idea. Boom. It literally is a problem. Just there… it doesn’t matter. I’m not gonna stay there. Okay like this. Okay now that we go and you miss it. Oh he is coming in I have to be able to move. Okay like this. Listen we’re gonna talk to you a few of the basic 5 blocks you need to learn to be able to defend yourself. Okay let’s start with this basic movement here to help you to learn. And if you haven’t subscribe to me yet be sure to subscribe to me before your enemies do, otherwise your enemy knows everything about it. Then kick you, rip otherwise, they block [?] movement. Then you’re gonna have a knife. Tell them… all this and a lot of stuff we do. So many different things but people turn around a lot about blocking stuff. How do you blocking stop?

Student:

You know and obviously as always it depends how you’re being punched and generally in the street people don’t particularly have a skill, but I’ve seen more and more people are doing martial arts and things nowadays. So it is a lot more likely that you may come up against someone who knows how to throw a punch.

Master Wong:

So today we are going to talk a little bit about 5 different things. Okay so how to block five different things. First the first thing is like I was saying I’m gonna come get you – I practice a lot of this. We can do that. Okay we can do this kind of movement in your punch. Okay now each of these block these two elements to delete something. So if this block I swing something I swing something. Okay. So basically I feel something, I swing something. Like this, okay. So basically every time he moved toward me, I was attacking his eyeball. I am attacking his eyeball. Now can it be done in a blocking style. It depends on the situation.

Student:

Yeah for sure. But I think it’s if you’ve trained it enough it’s a lot more likely to happen than most people would assume.

Master Wong:

Because you would come towards me yes you come toward me. Yeah so in the Wing Chun training a lot of time with very not block like this and block like this. We try to very
moment get close that you can to the line. They’re like this. So that way if we can use the length of the movement. Okay the basic movement of blocks. Now to block with this kind of movement we need to learn a few things. We need to move at the hand. At the hand. It’s like it’s like us that we are attacking, we are defending at the hand. Yeah.

Student:

Yeah

Master Wong:

So that’s that’s the basic of the movement. To helping them.

Student:

Even they’re like you know it’s have you’re like fuck do I want to hit this guy again because you’re attacking my attack.

Master Wong:

Yeah attacking the attack. That’s what unique about the Wing Chun training. Attacking attack. So that’s the first basic thing. Now some of you watching through this and you want to know more about it, make sure you join in our YouTube member area and I will break it all down and show you everything that you need to learn to understand. Okay. So let’s get into the line of the summary [?] attack with a hook coming in.

Student:

A hook. Yeah.

Master Wong:

A lot of time we have mentioned about this. Okay now we could remember close and long. Yeah so you need to remember that. Close and long. Because when you move in to me find him in here and I come into here for instance okay, then he is open. Okay so nightmare. So we’re gonna use it in a basic movement. If I’m here when I’m not sure and I’m not sure I will create this line to attack right away. Because my hand of the moment will bend adds up going. Okay so what is this movement here? If I’m talking to you a lot of the time people gonna whack. This is how most of the time you’re getting knocked out. Isn’t it?

Student:

Yeah which is obviously why you shouldn’t ideally allow people too close to you.

Master Wong:

And that’s when you remember the first one we talked about somebody’s very close hold them at a distance. Okay. Now if you haven’t watched that bully video go back to the video that we come up with five elements. That’s one element get that close except they hook me and be here and see and be here. So that’s the idea of learning now. But many people said in real life people don’t do this kind of hook. You can’t block them like that. So what the hell did you do?

Student:

Well in my opinion I’d be getting in closer or I wouldn’t put myself that close in the
first place. But you should be able to chat with people and get this close.

Master Wong:

That’s right.

Student:

So if something happens and you are quick enough, go in.

Master Wong:

Right. So this is that you need to learn. When I’m talking, if you attack, I’m fully here. Okay. My hand is automatic… now you can turn around, say if they attack I punch. So see what happened?

Student:

Yeah.

Master Wong:

So both of them got… somebody gonna both gonna be like this. They are both I’m gonna be like this. So people turn around and say a lot of many different things that oh you don’t block your [?] away. It’s better because you don’t know. Yes or no?

Student:

Yeah

Master Wong:

That’s why you don’t touch me. Yeah get to teach it now.

Student:

Yeah but that’s if you know it’s gonna happen. Like in training I can stand there and go when you hit I’m gonna hit.

Master Wong:

That’s right.

Student:

Because I’m waiting and watching a shoulder. If I’m just having a chat with you and I assume you’re okay?

Master Wong:

Yeah.

Student:

And you suddenly just going to hit me.

Master Wong:

You don’t know.

Student:

Where to punch first.

Master Wong:

You just don’t really know. So what I am talking about here… coming here I will be here right away. Yeah. If you see I’m coming inside I will be here right away. Okay now can you do some more. Of course he can but with a tune by the basic movement, blocking the basic element. Okay. So like I mentioned before some would want to know more stuff that, check out our member area onto the YouTube style. Inside the member areas you know a lot of stuff that we’re gonna go full so you know. So let’s go to slowly get new kicks on that line. So control and the hand. Okay and then you can finish them up if they need to walk to the length of the basic wing block onto the wing chun style to get the idea. So another block that is commonly said is uppercut. Isn’t it?

Student:

Yeah I mean it’s not necessarily one of the most common because a lot of people haven’t trained in it but it’s it’s an awkward technique to block.

Master Wong:

Is it caught it’s quite hard.

Student:

Yeah.

Master Wong:

So I’m talking and suddenly. Boom. So it literally is a problem. So a lot of time when I’m here he is again it goes back to the basic hand okay and body. Again on this body. Now you can go like this and then stay still. That will shoot right up to the chin. Literally very difficult. You got to twist coming in like that and follow it through. And into the line of our discard block yeah need to learn is length. It’s this kind of movement here that you are in a position like. This is like the… now the training of it is very unique. In a certain way their hand automatically will set it up for this kind moment for you to move on. Okay so if uppercut this side, your hand like this see. That’s really soon this is when the why the Wing Chun is good but when you start to understand it more and better. When you practice when the uppercut comes in, boom!! I would be ready. I’m ready across there. Now of course he is not gonna uppercut and stay there. Okay he’s not gonna stay there. It doesn’t matter. I’m not gonna stay there. Who’s told that a lot fight move people move so.

Student:

South

Master Wong:

Boris South this is for the [?] fight and move and people move. [?] underline boom I will be straight away on his eyeball okay.

Student:

Now that way it doesn’t matter cuz obviously for the sake of the demo, we’re going uppercut uppercut. I’m most likely.

Master Wong:

I will be straight in that way. It doesn’t really matter. As soon as you knew, move that hand up. Okay I will make the move and second thing about this as well when the uppercut comes in you’re not really you’re not really.

Student:

You’re not just blocking.

Master Wong:

You’re not blocking. Yeah you are cutting. Yeah you are attacking and then you will continue your movement you continue attacking and this is important to understanding their uppercut, is needed to make sure this hand gotta flow and flow with it. Okay. Another thing is to learn as well on and as some of you have been practicing and learning to the basic block. The kick.

Student:

Kicks yeah.

Master Wong:

Front kick is a really… so it’s really kind of a thing that people always do. You know.

Student:

Aiming for your nuts.

Master Wong:

Yeah I heard a lot of people said when he came into the nut, it’s not that effective.

Student:

Until you get kicked in the nuts.

Master Wong:

I mean I don’t know about you but I don’t know how to get kicked in the nuts. Okay it’s effective or not you know when you’re using it at night and play with the woman you know about him. It’s effective but in the meantime it’s bloody I mean I mean.

Student:

Even in training you just get like.

Master Wong:

Yeah it’s not really going to knock you out but it’s really there to really stun you, stop you. As you have seen in UFC, when they keep kicked in nut, you get 5 min rest. You have 5 minutes rest.

Student:

Because of how bad.

Master Wong:

That’s right. The metal box on. So imagine that coming straight to your nuts like this man. It’s a nightmare. So how to do that. When he kicks the nuts make sure the line… so make sure here you need to move. Let’s see. Okay now when he is done that you need to move this out of the way, as your hands and feet have to be in line, that is because I’m not sure when he is coming in. So I have to be able to move. Okay like this. Okay now the idea of learning this like moving like this, okay… So I’m not sure it coming in… like this and does not move slightly and keep in line. So when you’re walking you’re not really sure that’s why you’ll keep them at distance at all the time here because you can see the kick coming in, you can see the punch coming. Okay you can see the punch coming. This is the distance you need to get used to as a person like this in here. Okay so when a kick comes you know is here. You know you can see it. Okay like this. Now some time when you are blocking this… is needed to understand when you move, you need to move like this. You can’t block and then like that. Or you can’t block and go like this because the next one continues, because the idea of this yeah? really kicking okay offset that we can be using at this hand so for you to continue your movement. That’s why. And this is the thing now some of you were asking but he taunted kick and stay there we talked about the basic block.

Student:

Yeah. Somewhere stop hey that’s your that’s your start point.

Master Wong:

Yeah that’s a basic block to helping you. The basic stuff. Okay so understanding the blocking that movement the basic movement. If you cannot do that, if that land already it doesn’t matter what you do. It is too late because it’s already landed. Yeah it’s a nightmare for you. Okay another thing you need to understand as well when you’re in the situation, if you are too close it’s very difficult to block.

Student:

Yeah. You would probably get caught.

Master Wong:

Yeah you will get caught straight away. You can’t block it. It will go straight to
the nut. It’s difficult because it’s too close. It’s right here I boom straight on here. It is very difficult. Okay the next one, the last one we talked about it’s a round kick. Round kicks take a lot of time. It’s like that like in it or the rib cage or the head you know a lot of this kind of movement. So should imagine they kick across the rib cage in a minute. So when he kicks across the ribcage you get used to control and repeat the same like this okay so the movement of it coming in playing like this and also what is right like this moves out of the way. And sometimes you gotta go in like this or come in like this but you gotta make sure this hand there to supporting before you do that because if you go and you missed it and rib cage.

Student:

Is gone. Especially on that liver side as well… on the right.

Master Wong:

It is another tap like that in the UFC you have people getting their rib cage broken and stuff like that.

Student:

Even obviously just a punch in that in the liver well if you get shin there as well you see it ends fights.

Master Wong:

Very quickly. It’s literally gone. It’s a nightmare. Okay so practice this basic to get used
to. In a lot of times get used to the line. Okay. Practice like this all the time so when you get used to the lines I could do so many things and counters because when you’re able to do that you are able to keep him in position. Okay. And if you’re not able to keep a line like this you cannot keep in the position. Okay on the line or the movement, they’re so difficult. So this is what is it you’re helping you to learn to understand. Now most of you out there practice and stuff of that want to ask me anything else you want to ask me, I will be here to help you to learn. Another thing as well like I mentioned you before on to our YouTube membership area. Come in inside we got so many things broken down step by step to help you to learn properly. Because then I know that you want to learn and I will be able to help you there. Okay. Everything else you go on here for you to learn so you are able to see and learn it. And if you haven’t subscribed to me yet be sure to subscribe to me before your enemies do. Otherwise your enemy will know everything about it. Then they will kick you, rip you away, they blow all the movement. Then you are going to have a nightmare. And make sure if you haven’t done any to any training yet, you need to get your backside and start training.

Master Wong here no no. Nice book mate! Have you read my book? Check my book out. Remember to sleep, clean, train hard and don’t let anyone bully you again. Time please and another attack.

Master Wong:

It is that important, isn’t it?

Student:

Yeah definitely. Yeah it gives you that time

Master Wong:

I’m learning to defend that. Then from there it’s easy for me to do that. Okay. To control him and then I’m using a closer hand here . He pull my head in now it’s going to be in a
problem for you because you don’t know.

Student:

The good pressure point.

Master Wong:

Yeah so so when somebody grabs you like this… Or sometimes he might be like this and he comes directly. Okay. That’s how the hand is. This hand… practice the wing chun one straightaway in line. Okay yeah okay then you can move him out of the way. Now sometimes he might be like this and if I come directly. Okay that’s how the hand is. Boom. Hand control straight to the face that’s done the [?] Yeah like this yeah. But the reality term is when in this kind of range okay right so all the time in line because if you are straight arm on, it tips far. Yeah it is launching that on a slot this. Do you feel you can use your leg?

Student:

No.

Master Wong:

Because it’s really

Student:

Once that gets done, it becomes priority no 1.

Master Wong:

That’s it. So you get cover and your hand in the wrong place. Actually see the first time that’s moving here I… you see put your hand like this. That will land right away. So when we are training hard I will be inline on a movement. It’s quite a lot of juice in there. Yeah I mean soon it’s like saying your face disappears and some of you are there I know some of you love sucking a lot.
