Bolo was born as Yang Sze in Guangzhou, China. His parents’ and siblings’ names and identities have not been revealed to the public. His parents soon gauged his interest in martial arts when he was a child. When he was 10 years old, his parents have admitted him in martial arts classes. He got the opportunity to study under various Kung Fu Masters. While he was growing, he developed an interest in bodybuilding.

In the early 1970s, Bolo Yeung had the opportunity to work with martial arts star Bruce Lee when they both starred in a cigarette commercial. After that, the two became closer and together they starred in the movie Enter the Dragon, released in 1973. After Bruce Lee’s death, Bolo had many kind words to say about the star. This one interviewed by the press. In 1980, he decided to go to America to develop his acting career. There, he acted in American action movies, starting with the movie Bloodsport. This movie made Bolo’s name famous in North America and Western countries. The film became the highest-grossing film of spring 1988 in the U.S. Bolo’s role is Chong Li, a villain who was the rival of the main character in the film played by actor Jean-Claude Van Damme. After this film, Jean-Claude Van Damme also chose Bolo as his opposite in the movie Double Impact.
