#5. His Fight With Muhammad Ali

Bruce Lee was in awe of Muhammad Ali. Ali was the only athlete Bruce Lee ever admired. Contrary to popular belief, Bruce Lee never wanted to fight Muhammad Ali. Bruce Lee was poorly portrayed in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. He was made to look a fool in the movie. Tarantino even claimed Bruce Lee had said he could beat Muhammad Ali in a Boxing match. This couldn’t be further from the truth. This is what Bruce actually said about Muhammad Ali, “Everybody says I must fight Ali someday. I’m studying every move he makes. I’m getting to know how he thinks and moves. Look at my hand, that’s a little Chinese hand. He’d kill me.” Bruce is being humble and admitting he would lose to Muhammad Ali in a Boxing match. He never made the claim he could beat Muhammad Ali, or any other martial artist, or boxer. Bruce was a humble man. We all know Bruce could have been a world champion fighter in any discipline of his choosing. But Bruce Lee’s life was not about trophies or accolades. He wasn’t interested in titles or belts. His life was about exploring his inner self, bringing out all there is to bring out from spirit and soul, improving the mind and pushing the body to its very limit. “The inner self is the true self. In order to realize our true self, we must be willing to live without being dependent upon the opinion of others,” Bruce Lee (1970).

#4. He Had A Punching Bag On The Back Of His Car

As wild as this sounds, it’s true! Bruce Lee was not a fan of driving and there’s a good reason for that. He had fitted a punching bag in the back of his car. Every time he would get into his car, he would train while being driven to his destination. Now, that’s some serious dedication right there. He also brought training equipment to every film set he ever worked on. Between the shots, he would run over to the training equipment and go to work. He even convinced 20th century Fox producers to let him bring training equipment to the set of The Green Hornet. Now, that’s pretty badass! Bruce Lee would accumulate between 5,000 and 10,000 punches in a day. It’s safe to say Bruce Lee was a workout artist with machine-like limitless energy.

#3. The Use Of Slow Motion In His Movies

Bruce Lee was a groundbreaking pioneer of slow motion photography in action movies. Back in those days, slow motion movie was never used in martial arts movies, or in regular movies for that matter. But Bruce changed all that. Early in his career, Bruce was told he was “too fast” for the camera. He was told he needed to slow down his movements or he wouldn’t be visible on screen. But Bruce had a better idea, he would perform his movements at lightning fast speeds but slowed down the footage in post-production and voila; slow-motion action scenes were born. This would create an entirely new genre of action movies that is still going strong even to this day. The likes of Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Donnie Yen, all have Bruce to thank for bringing life to this new and exciting genre of movies.

#2. Bruce Lee Consumed Hashish and Smoked Marijuana

Bruce Lee consumed hashish and smoked marijuana on occasion. This was used for pain relief and to calm him down before filming. His autopsy revealed he had a very small amount of cannabis in his system when he died and this had no impact on his death. In ancient China, cannabis was used as medicine as far back as 2500 years ago. According to Chinese lore, the immortal magu was a transcendent deity that healed and aided the poor with cannabis. This was called the elixir of life. No doubt, Bruce would have been inspired by the hemp goddess when he decided to use cannabis for its healing properties.

#1. Bruce Lee Had His Sweat Glands Surgically Removed

For years, Bruce would complain of excess sweating while filming his movies. So he decided to take action and had his sweat glands removed. Some people think this had a negative impact on his health and that this would later cause him to suffer heat strokes, although no such evidence exists. The removal of sweat glands is fairly common and is not associated with an adverse health effect.
