Bruce Lee holds court among stuntmen and crew members of ‘Green Hornet’, saying he could beat the legendary fighter Muhammad Ali. Brad Pitt then calls Bruce Lee, ‘a little man with a big mouth and a big chip’. Bruce Lee heard it and he proposed a three-round fight to prove what he said is right to Brad Pitt. During the first round, Bruce Lee kicks Brad Pitt in the chest using his famous flying kick, flooring him. This scene is absolutely cool. Brad Pitt is on the floor and says, ‘Not bad Kato, try that again.’ Bruce Lee then strikes Pitt with a second flying kick, but this time Brad Pitt catches him and hurls him into a car parked behind the set. Both of the front and back car doors was completely smashed. This shows how strong Brad Pitt is and how weak Bruce Lee. Both of them then start the third-round fight. However, the fight is interrupted. Therefore, it is a tie. This is just a very short fight scene but why Bruce Lee’s fans don’t like it?

Reason #1

It turns Bruce Lee into a disrespectful person, which he was not. In the film, Bruce Lee says he could ‘cripple’ Muhammad Ali. In a recent interview, Quentin Tarantino said not only did Bruce Lee say he could beat up Muhammad Ali and his wife, Linda Lee also said it in her first biography. Bruce Lee did star in ‘The Green Hornet’ in 1960s as the crime fighter Kato. However, did Bruce Lee ever says he could beat up Muhammad Ali?

The film made Bruce Lee looked like an arrogant martial arts actor. Quentin Tarantino said that his portrayal of the martial artist was based on facts. He said that, ‘The way he was talking, I didn’t just make a lot of that up.’

Reason #3

Bruce Lee looks like he lost in the fight with Brad Pitt. In real life, Bruce Lee would not allow his opponent to catch him and hurl him into a car like in the movie. Bruce Lee’s fans don’t believe Brad Pitt could beat up or even get close to Bruce Lee in a real fight. Regarding this matter, Quentin Tarantino said, ‘Cliff Booth is a fictional character. If I say Cliff can beat Bruce Lee up, he’s a fictional character, so, he could beat Bruce Lee up.’ On top of that, Tarantino also added that, ‘If Cliff were fighting Bruce Lee in a martial arts tournament in Madison Square Garden, Bruce would kill him.’

Reason #4

Real Bruce Lee would not scream like what was portrayed in the movie. What Bruce lee always says is (Imitates what Bruce Lee would say). Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee told The Wrap, ‘It was really uncomfortable to sit in the theater and listen to people laugh at my father. What I’m interested in, is raising the consciousness of who Bruce Lee was as a human being and how he lived his life. All of that was flushed down the toilet in this portrayal and made my father into this arrogant punching bag.’
