Jason Statham (Actor & Film Producer):

“Push-ups. Basically, I was training with a navy seal and a lot of the stuff that they do. It’s almost like the old style of training you know there’s no machines and elliptical sort of runners, just using your body weight and getting through the pain.”

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

What’s up guys? Derek (moreplatesmoredates.com). Today, we’re going to be talking about Jason Statham’s body transformations and what I think he does in particular to peek for roles and you know, maintain such a great physique as he gets in decades into his acting career.

So, Jason Statham has become one of the most iconic action stars of the past couple decades and he isn’t bodybuilder big by any means, he’s not, you know, “The Rock” big but he is very fit. And for the duration of his career, he’s shown many times that he’s capable of having a very high tier physique especially for, you know, Hollywood actors, they’re not trying to, they’re not like men’s physique competitors or some fitness industry. On a realistic ideal, they usually peak for, you know, 3-6 months for a role and they look amazing and then they kind of go back to their regular life, where they maintain decent body composition but nothing insane over the top like that. And Jason Statham is sort of the same.

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

If you go all the way back to “Mean Machine” in 2001, he is 34 years old in this movie, he has visible 6 pack, a bit of muscle in his frame, decent traps and obviously, you know, putting the effort to look good for that role. And throughout his entire 30s, he more or less looks the same. In “The Transporter” (2002) at 35 years old, lean again, 6 packs probably, I don’t know, 13-14% body fat or so, you know, obviously that’s arguable. But he has some muscle in his frame but not abundantly over the top amounts of tissue where you’d think. Okay, this guy is cranked out of his mind. But again, you have to realize that these guys don’t necessarily maintain these physiques year-round. So, even if you are not necessarily looking like Jay Cutler or Ronnie Coleman when you’re walking around, it doesn’t mean that you didn’t do a cycle to achieve a specific look.

So, I would continue looking through his filmography to kind of see what else he’s done, if his body composition has fluctuated significantly. Because usually what we see as a red flag is, these actors as they become more prominent and start to land bigger roles and they become A-list celebrities, they start to really change their physique deeper into their careers in their 40s. And when you see a guy who has been an action star his entire career, all of a sudden in his 40s, blow away a well-trained physique in his 30s or his later 20s, that’s usually a red flag. And for Statham going to 41 years old in “Death Race”, to me, this is the peak his physique has been in his entire career. And this is mainly what I’m going to focus on in this video is the “Death Race” physique and kind of what his body composition looked like around that movie before the filming, the production dates and how long it took him to achieve this, and how dramatic of a transformation it really was.

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

Before we get into that specifically though, “Death Race”. This is what he looks like in it. He is way closer to striking distance of single-digit body fat. He’s probably packed on what appears to be 5-10 pounds of muscle since the other rolls. You know, you could argue, maybe he’s just leaner in this movie as opposed to the other one. So, it makes him appear bigger and that’s entirely possible. But just objectively, it looks like he’s also packed on a decent amount of mass on his upper back in particular, in his lats and the ab cuts are deeper. He’s got, you know, visible size on his biceps and triceps whereas normally he really doesn’t. His traps are looking medior than ever in this movie.

Moving forward to “Transporter 3” in 2008, 41 years old, this is pretty much the same time frame as “Death Race” and you can see the deep ab cuts are still in there. It’s a bit of a less flattering shot. But the filming date for “Transporter 3” was actually in February to July of 2008 whereas for “Death Race”, it was August of 2007. So, this is like half a year later. So, his physique is not just back to back “Death Race” to “Transporter 3” with no lag time in between. So, to me, it looks like he might be a little bit smaller in “Transporter 3”, more or less maintaining the same body composition though. And then as he gets into his deeper 40s. In “The Mechanic”, he still looks very good but he’s a bit softer than he was in the previous roles. He’s got a bit more of a rectangular frame, looks like he’s lost a bit of muscle mass, maybe even packed on a bit of visceral fat as he gets into his 40s. And that seems a bit more apparent in 2012 in “Safe”, where the cuts are not the same. They’re, you know, he’s still in great shape but it’s not as streamlined and as athletic looking of a lean physique as he had in “Death Race” a handful of years prior.

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

Moving forward to “The Mechanic: Resurrection”, 2016. This is not that long ago. He’s 49 years old here but he still looks, you know, objectively, he looks awesome. He looks better than 99.9% of 49-year-olds. He looks better 99.9% of f*cking 25-year-olds, to be honest. This guy is consistently in shape for his roles. But when you compare it to “Death Race” back in 2008, the physique is not what it was. And when he describes his training for it, it’s not like there was anything special. It doesn’t even sound like he did any progressive overload with weight training.

Jason Statham (Actor & Film Producer):

“Lots of exercise that involves a lot of body weight, a lot of very physical things like climbing ropes, lots of press-ups and chin-ups and explosive exercises.”

“I have a sort of, a certain sort of a regime. We just cut out a lot of the bad foods, a lot of the comfort foods got a little bit more disciplined and very busy with pull-ups and push-ups. Basically I was training with a navy seal and a lot of the stuff that they do, it’s almost like the old style of training, you know. There is no machine and elliptical sort of runners, just using your body weight and getting through the pain.”

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

So, that’s not to say that you can’t get this physique with bodyweight movements and whatnot. I would claim that it’s harder. And I would think it more so reinforces the likelihood that somebody may be leveraging some performance enhancing aid in order to achieve that look. Because it is pretty difficult to gain, you know, 5-10 pounds of muscle and lose simultaneously a bunch of fat during a few months of prep when you are in your 40s, when Jason Statham, well, he is currently 53 years old. So, when he was prepping for “Death Race” in 2007, it was filmed August, 2007. He had just turned 40. So, this guy’s in his 40s and he’s showing a physique in 2008 or 2007 technically, better than he had as literally a competitive diver when he was competing to qualify for the olympic games this is when he was representing England way back in his 20s. This guy was a high caliber athlete and diver and his physique looks nowhere near what it was as a, you know, like basically a pro athlete as compared to what it is doing. Some pull-ups and cutting out some of the comfort foods to prepare for “Death Race”.

So, for me, that already lended to the likelihood that something was deployed to prep for that role and perhaps thereafter sustained in some way to maintain his physique deeper into his 40s, into his 50s. Because this guy has not regressed significantly. And in fact, in his 50s he looks better than he did in his 20s basically. So, the thing I looked at that gave me more insight was what he looked like before “Death Race”. So, what did he look like just a few months prior and how long did it take him to prepare? Because the blatant differences and quick changes are typically what are the biggest red flags for these actors is they’ll maintain a certain body composition like granted. You can give them some leeway because oftentimes they don’t even stick to a committed diet and training regimen like a good one when they’re not preparing for a role.

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

But even if you’re doing a transformation in a short period of time, it has to be somewhat realistic for somebody in their 40s to achieve, if you’re only doing it in a few months. So, again, the filming date was August of 2007, so he had just turned 40. So, keep that in mind. And when you do some digging, I was able to find these images; “Sexy Statham Goes Shirtless in Cannes”. So, this is May 21st, 2007. So, we’re literally within 3 months of him starting filming for “Death Race”. And this is what he looks like right now. You can see a little bit of an outline of a 6-pack, a lot more flabby, not as much muscle. There’s some other images from this trip too. So, this is the exact same date apparently and a much less flattering shot of him, with a bit of a saggy chest, a bit of a rectangular shape, less traps, less defined arms, less V-taper in general. And this isn’t to sh*t on his physique, like he actually still looks decent here, like you can see, you know, like a visible outline of a 6-pack and the guy is objectively in good shape for somebody who’s 40, of course. But compare this to literally within 2-3 months, looking like he does in “Death Race”, and the difference is f*cking substantial, not just in that – oh this guy lost 10 to 15 pounds of fat. And that’s why he, you know, looks more muscular. I suppose that’s entirely possible but to me it looks like actual contractile tissue was added to his frame on his upper back. His traps are a lot more meaty. The abs are obviously more protruding because of less fat but I mean, just the overall build itself, it looks like he’s packed on at least 5 pounds of muscle while simultaneously losing 10+ pounds of fat, which is a pretty substantial thing to accomplish within 2-3 months at 40 years old only doing bodyweight movements. But as I was digging, I actually found some other speculation on the internet about natty or not and this exact same movie. And some of the comments are pretty funny;

[Reddit Comments]

– “Repeat after me… actors are never happy”,
– “I can’t think of any exceptions”,
– “Not 6’3” and not natty”.

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

Is he not 6’3”? Well, it looks like he is. I don’t know. F*ck. Anyway…

[Reddit Comments]

– “No he’s definitely not natural. Anyone who makes millions of dollars and has to work hours upon hours a day on set acting doesn’t have much time or care to take care of their body. The dude still works out and cares about fitness, but there’s no way he can have and maintain this body without anabolic assistance.”
– “Looks very natty. This sub is so pathetic sometimes.”
– “Natty. Actors have a lot at their disposal and will keep them in this shape, trainers, personal chefs, nutritionists. His body doesn’t even look juicy. F*ck.

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

Because we all know having personal trainers that teach you how to do f*ck; air humps and weird medicine ball exercises and weird body weight movements are the ones that are gonna transform your body the quickest, right? Worth every f*cking penny having those pro trainers.

[Reddit Comments]

– “He isn’t natty at all. No debate. However, his physique… it’s tough. The front is definitely achievable, however his lats are pretty insane for natty in my opinion. Overall, I think with the right genetics, someone could achieve that look without gear.”

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

I also agree. However, the time frame going from this at the end of May to going to this in the middle of August, during the same year at 40 years old, have like with body weight movements, no weights, no f*ckingmachines, no nothing, no progressive overload, how likely is it that you did that naturally? That’s what I would ask. And I think it’s pretty f*cking low.

[Reddit Comments]

– “I just saw his roid delts in “The Mechanic: Resurrection”. He may have not been juicing in the past, but he certainly is doing it now. Getting old.”
– “Photoshopped pic. Abs are drawn on. Also he isn’t within missile range of 6 ft.”
– “Good points lol.”

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

I guess this is a more recent shot, June 12, 2017. What do y’all think? At least natty attainable?

[Reddit Comments]

– “Natty, but also easy to achieve on TRT with consistent lifting”
– “Jason Statham seems like the guy who would call you a p*ssy for using steroids.”
– “Except that his buttcheeks is loaded with needle holes because of this that f*cking TRT.”

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

Yeah, honestly, for me I’m kind of on the same page, to be honest. To me, Jason’s physique over the years, like as a near Olympic caliber athlete, sure, you’re not training for hypertrophy when you’re a swimmer or a diver or whatever, but I would still argue this is a pretty, you’re probably training and dieting pretty damn strict in your mid-20s with peak testosterone levels. This is likely going to be representative of close to what your physique is capable of naturally and then moving into your 30s, your physique getting substantially better with what I would consider to be sub-optimal training practices. And then getting into your 40s and peaking for a role where you literally look saucy as f*ck compared to what you were in your 20s as a near Olympic athlete, within like 2.5 months of being in on vacation with a f*cking rectangle instead of a V-taper and some muffin top action and no abs basically. And you know, nearly dad bod status and then showing up looking like a f*cking men’s physique competitor almost.

Derek (More Plates More Dates):

I think it’s very unlikely that he didn’t use something for “Death Race” and I think it was probably in the ballpark of testosterone only, is kind of my assumption. Why else, what else are you gonna do at 40 years old when you’re first getting on the gear? And is this when he first got on gear? It’s hard to say for certain, but I would assume that this is when he probably started actually taking it seriously on a consistent basis, where he probably did a cycle of, you know, 300-400 mg of test per week to prepare for this role within that two and a half months condensed time block, where he had to completely transform his physique from going on vacation mode to showing up and looking like a f*cking badass, with a shredded 6-pack and meaty ass lats. And then thereafter, in his subsequent roles maintaining a pretty damn close physique. Obviously, it’s regressed throughout his 40s a bit but that’s simply representative of not adhering to the same strictness of a diet model likely, and probably not doing his navy seal f*cking bodyweight movements I guess. But still, at 50 years old he has a better physique than he did in his 20s.

So, what’s the likelihood that he’s natural? I would say not likely. I think he is probably cycled and you know, “blasted” in particular for “Death Race” as well as a couple of his other roles where he really peaked. And, you know, simultaneously gained muscle and lost fat at the same time and not that you couldn’t do that naturally, but I mean completely transforming your body from at 40 years old with body weight movements like, come on. So, and then thereafter, he basically maintained a maybe 5 pounds less muscle with a bit more fat, a bit more visceral fat, built up as he got into his closer to 50. But he still looks better than he did in his 20s guys. And it doesn’t seem like even for “Death Race”, where he was trying to prepare the most strict. He’s prepared for a role before he just had to cut out the comfort foods and do some body weight movements. So, how likely is it that he was natural? I think unlikely as f*ck. I think he is probably on TRT right now and I think he’s blasted with super physiological dosages of testosterone, at least a handful of times in his career. So, that is my stance on Jason Statham.

Derek (More Plates More Dates):
