Jet Li, is a Chinese film actor, film producer, martial artist, and retired Wushu champion who was born in Beijing. He is a naturalized Singaporean citizen.

A very young Li competed against adults, in the Chinese Wushu Championships and won fifteen gold medals and one silver medal.

Jet Li: “My winning first place caused quite a sensation because I was so young. I was 12 years old, and the other two medalists were in their mid- to late twenties. During the awards ceremony, as I stood on the top step of the podium, I was still shorter than the 2nd and 3rd place medalists. It must have been quite a sight.”

Li as a Buddhist believes that the difficulties of everyday life can be overcome with the help of religious philosophies. He thinks that fame is not something he can control; therefore, he does not care about it.

Jet Li: “I never say to myself I’m the best fighter in the world. If someone learns martial arts solely to pick fights on the street, to lean on it as a keystone weapon in conflicts, to use it to bully and intimidate others – then that person, in my opinion, cannot be considered a true martial artist.”

Jet Li:

Bruce Lee made only 4 movies. You’re able to see his persona and his individual personality inside all his action movies.

And you’re able to see his complete,  like a… one face of his personality…everyday life, and that he knew each role…very intimately and their inner nature.

Possibly his hardwork at this…was his success, and is one main factor.

However, we must keep at this way…this is my attempt to keep at it like Bruce.

Jet Li:

You can make the role unique, because… I always keep in my mind to separate from each role.

Because you are acting the part of a role. Of course, we get to act as… a lot of good people…perhaps to western culture, I act as a lot of heroes, but, all I am…is just a strong guy…you see…I’m not a hero.

Jet Li:

Me personally, I’m not a hero. I’m just acting as somebody’s hero. Just the same for the opposite. Say I’m acting as a bad guy but, I’m not that bad guy.

Therefore, as far as possible…I must go and study how to know myself, the movie, then separate.
