On July 23, 2007, Ali married former NFL player Curtis Conway in Los Angeles. They have two children together, a son born in August 2008 and a daughter born in April 2011. Ali is also the stepmother of Conway’s three children.
Laila started Boxing at the age of 18. Initially inspired by Christy Martin, she announced her intention to become a professional boxer in a “Good Morning America” interview. While her father was eventually supportive of her decision, he expressed concerns about her safety early on. In her debut match on October 8, 1999 against April Fowler, many journalists and fans attended, largely because she was Muhammad Ali’s daughter. Laila knocked Fowler out and claimed her first victory. Another win came against Shadina Pennybaker with a TKO. Eventually, Ali had won nine matches in a row. The helped her generate a considerable following, with many fans calling for a match against Jacqui Frazier-Lyde, the daughter of Joe Frazier.
In 2001, fans finally got their wish, and the two boxing daughters squared off. Ali won in a majority decision, although both women walked away with serious injuries. Ali then took a year off before returning in 2002 and later retained the IBA title, the WIBA and IWBF belts with a win over Valier Mahfood, a world champion.
Laila also knocked out her idol Christy Martin, as well as many other female boxers. Further victories and championships came in 2004 and 2005 but by 2006, Laila’s career had begun to slow down. She fought a few more fights before retiring from professional boxing in 2007. Laila Ali ended her career with a record of 24 wins, zero losses, and zero draws. Her 24 wins included 21 knockouts and three decisions. During her career, from which she retired undefeated, she held the WBC, WIBA, IWBF and IBA female super middleweight titles, and the IWBF light heavyweight title. Ali is widely regarded by many within the sport as one of the greatest female boxers of all time.
Laila Ali has earned a good income from her boxing career. The former boxer has an estimated net worth of $12 million as of 2021.
Ali and her family currently reside in Woodland Hills, California. They purchased a 5-bed, 7-bath, 5,775 sq ft home in May of 2004 for $1.59M, according to public records.
It’s not a big secret that wrestler Hulk Hogan’s life is in turmoil. He says that there was a time in which he was so depressed that he was suicidal, but Ali called him and saved his life. It’s not something she has ever discussed with anyone in her life.
Outside of acting, Laila has enjoyed a successful entertainment career. She took on roles in television series, hosted numerous shows, appeared in films and voiced herself in an episode of “Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?”. In 2007, Laila gained further prominence after competing in season four of “Dancing with the Stars.” Despite her having no dance experience Ali came in third place.
In 2002, Ali wrote the book “Reach! Finding Strength, Spirit, and Personal Power”, meant to motivate and inspire young people. In this book, she confides that she felt isolated at times because of her father’s fame. Ali has also spent some time in jail, and describes her arrests and the physical abuse she experienced in jail. Critics say that Ali’s book has a good foundation but she does not give the readers advice; rather, she just talks about her own experiences.
