Sammo Hung (Hong Kong Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer and Director):
“I invited Bruce Lee to Spain to film a movie. About a month before the shooting began he got nothing to do. He was just training there and he already challenged all the martial arts schools in Barcelona.”

Welcome to Bruce Lee real fight channel. Have you ever heard about the fight between Bruce Lee and Sammo Hung. Bruce Lee returned to hong kong in 1971 from the United States. He had not started any shooting at that time but whenever he was free he would drop by the studio in Hong Kong to say hello to everyone. One day Bruce Lee visited a studio and Sammo Hung was shooting a movie scene where they were introduced to each other by a filmmaker on the set. At that time Bruce didn’t realize that the Green Hornet had been played to success in Hong Kong and was unofficially referred to as “The Kato show”. Bruce didn’t even know he had a lot of fans in Hong Kong and Sammo Hung was one of his biggest fans. So Sa,mo is a little nervous meeting his idol for the first time. He then said to Bruce, “hey are you really as fast as they say? Can you really kick fast?” Bruce didn’t know Sammo was his fan and he felt like Sammo was challenging his kicks. Bruce then said, “yes I am really fast. Do you want some, do you want to try it?” Sammo doesn’t know what to say then. He just said okay and then the rest of the story… Let’s listen to what Sammo said.

Sammo Hung (Hong Kong Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer and Director):
“Do you want to try to fight? What can I say? Okay! Then we’re just standing trying to do something. When I tried to kick him I just put halfway… his feet on my face and then they stopped there. My pose… then asked me, ‘how is it?’ Good! What can I say? Of course…”

After the fight both of them became good friends. Over the years Sammo Hung had told this story to the media a couple times. However that’s another story of Bruce Lee challenging all the martial arts schools in Barcelona, Spain. Sammo Hungonly talks about it once and hears the interview.

Sammo Hung (Hong Kong Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer and Director):
“After that Bruce often visited me on the set every time I shot a movie in Hong Kong. He always comes after lunch and asks me to go into a room. He then showed me different kinds of weapons. We always talk about these kinds of things but we didn’t spar with each other anymore. He also showed me his electric muscle stimulation things and explained to me how darts and spikes should be.”

Sammo Hung (Hong Kong Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer and Director):
“Bruce is fantastic. First of all he had a lot of fighting experiences on the stage. He had a lot of real fight experiences. He also had a lot of street fight experiences. I invited Bruce Lee to Spain to film a movie about a month before the shooting began. He got nothing to do. He was just training there and he already challenged all the martial arts schools in Barcelona. Bruce was always polite. He just wanted to train with them but the teacher then set him up. They hired a cameraman to film the spar and the teacher was aggressive. So Bruce goes for real too and defeats the teacher in just a few seconds.”

Sammo Hung is one of the grand masters of Hong Kong cinema. He was born in 1952, 12 years younger than Bruce Lee he first appeared on screen as a child in 1961, the same year he joined the China drama academy which was also attended by Jackie Chan, Yuen Wah and Yuen Biao. Sammo made his name working as a stunt man for kung fu flames in the 1960s. And rose to martial arts choreographer for Shaw brothers the Golden Sword in 1969. He famously fought Bruce Lee in the 1973 movie… Enter the Dragon. He was the Shaolin fighter who appears in a brief fight scene against Bruce Lee at the start of the film and he became a successful actor martial artist film producer and director. Regarding the fight Bruce Lee had in Barcelona that’s definitely a strong statement from Sammo Hung. Many people said Bruce Lee didn’t have a real fight before, because he didn’t participate in any tournaments. That’s not true in the 60s and early 70s, Bruce lee went to many martial arts schools and sparred with the students and sometimes the teachers.

George Dillman (Black Belt Magazine’s “1997 Martial Arts Instructor of the Year”, Black Belt Magazine’s Hall of Fame, 150 Schools Worldwide, Controversial Pressure Point Instructor, Karate Sensei To Muhammad Ali):
“And he asked if he could stop by the dojo to train. He did. He came by the dojo… he came by my school three times. He used to go around to different karate schools and would fight the students. To him that was better than the tournament and he would fight all the students. Now some of the write-ups made it sound like he was aggressive and he was not. He was always polite. If he went into Paul Bowman’s school or my school. He did come to my school, but he went into Paul Bowman’s school… he didn’t ask Paul Bowman to fight. He wouldn’t go in and beat up the instructor in front of the students and they… some of the articles led you to believe that. He went in and asked if he could spar with your students. You say… and then he would spar with your students and he did very well with all the students, he beat em up most of the time. Not bad. I mean it was still point fighting, but he would hit em and then he would uh you know… if you asked him to fight…. Well I asked him to fight. That’s how it came about. He didn’t ask me. I asked him. I said, I want to fight with you, I want to spar. And we spar.”

Bruce Lee Real Fight Channel (Real Bruce Lee Fight Stories and Jeet Kune Do Training):
As George Dillman said, Bruce was always polite when he challenged a martial arts school or a karate school he wouldn’t beat up the instructor in front of the students.
He will never embarrass the teacher in front of his students too. Except if they ask him for a fight. Just like what Dillman did. Those words from Dillman are very similar to what Sammo Hung said in the interview. Whether it is the United States, Spain or Hong Kong, Bruce was always polite when he asked for a spar. He will only use his real power if his opponent breaks the promise.
So what do you think about the fight Bruce Lee had in Barcelona. According to Sammo Hung Bruce defeated all the local fighters in Barcelona during his free time. Please leave a comment and tell us what you think about it.

Sammo Hung (Hong Kong Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer and Director):
“But he should get off that half then he stopped. Then they shoot the Enter the Dragon you know and then I in the Thai… Bangkok and uh I must actually direct them in Bangkok you know and then suddenly they call me. Want me to go back to Hong Kong two days, fight with Bruce Lee. As you know I don’t want to. They talked about… I’ll just come one day and the second day’s a half day. Then in the night send you back to Bangkok. Talk a long time. Okay. Then I fly back to Hong Kong. Then saw Bruce Lee. They were talking. Just talked about how to do shooting tomorrow. What kind of action… We just talked in his front yard. Somewhat like that… like that. Okay. See you tomorrow. See you tomorrow. Just like that very fast.”
