Sammo Hung (Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer & Director):

I admired Bruce Lee a lot. I knew how good his Kung Fu was. He is my idol since I was a kid. I am definitely no match for him.

BruceLeeRealFight:

Welcome to BruceLeeRealFight Channel.

This is Sammo Hung in 2023. He was born in 1932 and he is 71 years old. This interview is conducted recently in Hong Kong after Sammo Hung received Lifetime Achievement honor at Asian Film Awards. He is one of the pivotal figures who spearheaded the Hong Kong new wave movement of the 1980s. Along with Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung reinvents the martial arts genre by making comedy Kung Fu films.

BruceLeeRealFight:

Most of his films was a mix of liberal dose of humor and some serious martial arts movements. Although Sammo is 12 years younger than Bruce Lee, they were actually very close friends. Sammo always said in interview that Bruce Lee is one of the most respectful people in his life. And he talked about this again right after he received his lifetime achievement honor. Let’s take a look at this interview.

Interviewer:

I watched some of your old interviews, you said Bruce Lee and Lau sifu are two most respectful people for you. Have you ever defeated them in real life?

Sammo Hung (Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer & Director):

No, no chance at all. I rather kill myself. I grew up watching Bruce Lee’s movie, especially his role as Cato in The Green Hornet. I admired Bruce Lee a lot. I knew how good his Kung Fu was. He is my idol since I was a kid. I am definitely no match for him.

Interviewer:

I watched an interview before you said you had a real fight with Bruce Lee.

Sammo Hung (Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer & Director):

Yes, that was the first time we met. I was at Golden Harvest studio in Hong Kong. I was filming a movie called Thunderbolt. Bruce then came to visit. When I saw him, I said, I heard you are good in martial arts, is it true? Bruce misunderstood my question, he said, yes, I’m good, do you want to try? I was forced to say yes at the time. His leg is already at my face before I could do anything.

Interviewer:

Did he kick you?

Sammo Hung (Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer & Director):

Just right beside my face here. He asked me how was it? I said amazing.

Interviewer:

Both of you became good friends then?

Sammo Hung (Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer & Director):

Yes, we became very good friends. He often visited me at the set. He asked me to go into his room and show me his custom-made weapons.

Interviewer:

After that, you start a business with Jackie Chan and rumors said that Jackie Chan gives you a nickname like “the big brother” of Big Brother which is Dai Gor Dai, is it true?

Sammo Hung (Actor, Martial Artist, Film Producer & Director):

No, it wasn’t from Jackie Chan. I don’t know where this name came from.
