MuayFit instructor Mike Yap shares some self-defense techniques against common attacks with Metro Online Broadcast (MOB).

I’m a self-defense instructor in our gym called Muay-Fit I would like to share some self-defense tips with everybody.

The first technique I’m going to share with everybody here, is a scenario where you are lying down and someone’s on top of you. I will show you now how to escape from this person okay?  So when you are pinned down like that, in order for you to get out you have to use the hips. Raise up your hips in the same time you use your hands to push him to the side and go like that and down. And now I can fight the person or I can do the arm lock, so you get him off. And you can kick him or fight him or go arm lock or you would run away.

This is a very common scenario it happens sometimes back in Malaysia. Someone came up with a knife like that on the throat from the back. The other important thing is that your hands are not walking around like that. So you want to defend yourself,  you have to pacify him first,  if not he will slit your throat.

When he sees you making a move,  right,  so what you do is say okay okay okay. And you put your hands up here and you immediately you go down like that. And you put here,  over your shoulder and then you put arm break,  another arm lock,  you snap it up,  and you go down here and arm will be broken and the knife will drop, then you can run away.

This is another very common situation when someone wants to strike you. Because most untrained people they will swing, when you swing, at you with full force. You push one here you can stop there or else you can also add in with a knee kick here to the joint.

But this is the very most practical way how to defend yourself against someone slashing you with the power arm now when someone is slashing the power arm what most people do which is actually wrong is to move out, if you can run away fine but if you cannot run away if your moving out a little bit you’re giving him space to slash you.

So the important thing here is that when you are turning yourself here he’s near enough to you, you are going to block him when you block him you are actually neutralizing the power.

Giving example okay, now if he is coming at you, you see I block it, so I’m not even blocking the power arm I’m blocking the edge and here he will get hurt if you snap here if it’s one person attacking you, you can actually do this and do arm-lock and you can break his arm but if is multiple attack you cannot afford that, you have to do quickly this and he will drop down.
