Hello and welcome to all. If you are a fan of action movies and fights, you can’t fail to know immutable Yuri Boyka – the pugnacious fighter of the Undisputed series. This character is indeed so charismatic that he went from being the main antagonist of the movie Undisputed 2 to the main hero of the third and fourth opus of the saga. But if Boyka managed to turn into a good guy after playing the role of a sadistic villain, it’s because he is a real athlete and a great fighter in real life, mastering a lot of martial arts. Scott Edward Adkins, the interpreter of Boyka is indeed a Jack of all trades in terms of combat sports and his athletic abilities but also his talent as an actor has allowed him to be compared to legendary names such as Bruce Lee or Jean-Claude Van Damme.

But how did a young British man become a master Kung Fu Wushu so much so that his fame joins those of the immutable icons of martial arts? And how did Adkins build a character as distinctive and complex as Yuri Boyka? So, sit back and relax because today, we’re going to try to find out the whole truth about the incredible Yuri Boyka.

World Revealed:

Scott Adkins was born on June 17, 1976, in Sutton Coldfield, a city in Birmingham, England. And to tell the truth, nothing prepared him to become a martial arts champion, let alone an actor in successful movies because Yuri Boyka was born in a family of butchers who perpetuated his trade from fathers to son. It was therefore quite natural that he became a butcher himself when he grew up. But instead of learning how to make nets and fold nets, young Scott Adkins was more interested in action movies, which he watched behind his parents’ back. Every night he waited patiently for them to go to bed and then watched television until very late. But little Scott was specially watching the movie Enter the Dragon by Bruce Lee, which he could watch endlessly so much he loved this cult movie. It is by watching the unequal performances and the great charisma of Bruce Lee that the young boy will decide to become one day like him. Young Scott didn’t know that his childhood dream would finally come true but of course, he had to wait until he grew up a little.

World Revealed:

His growing attraction for martial arts took him one day on a visit with his father and brother to a Judo gym located near the neighbourhood where they lived. The young boy, then barely 10 years old, was nevertheless struck by an intense emotion emanating from the dojo which only he seemed to have felt. Yet, Scott Adkins did not enrol in Judo classes or any other martial arts for that matter probably because he did not feel ready to do so yet. At the age of 13, the young teenager experienced a traumatic event when he was mugged and had his pocket money stolen while walking home from school. This painful episode will then incite the young Scott to take the step and to register for Taekwondo classes. He trained intensively for 3 years, learning with passion and perseverance all the secrets and techniques of this Korean martial art.

World Revealed:

Unlike his classmates, the young Scott Adkins was extremely motivated to gain strength and explosiveness, characteristics that the young fighter would take to a whole new level a few years later. When he blew out his 16th candles, Scott Adkins felt that he needed more technique, especially in the area of punches and elbows. Taekwondo is a martial art that primarily uses the feet. It was therefore necessary for him to reorient himself towards another combat sport which would be even more complete and which would allow him to reach an irreproachable physical condition. His choice was therefore naturally made towards Kickboxing, an extreme sport which combines attacks with feet and fists. He started training and after 3 years he obtained a black belt and on top of that, a diploma as an instructor for the Professional Karate Association. The young man of only 19 years old is already a master of martial arts, which is an incredible achievement for a butcher’s child.

World Revealed:

Proud of his new title, the young man will then try to diversify his techniques and training methods. He will then start an initiator request in Muay Thai and MMA but also in Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, Capoeira, Wushu, and even gymnastics in order to be as flexible as possible. The young fighter will even try Jeet Kune Do, the famous and emblematic martial art created by his childhood idol – the great Bruce Lee. A true Jack of all trades in martial arts, Scott Adkins will even dive into the meanders of the latter, seeking to learn ancestral and secret techniques, especially regarding Ninjutsu, the terrible martial art of ninjas and shinobis. And to find a certain balance in the middle of all these fighting techniques, he also practices Tai Chi, which allows him to keep a great serenity in almost all situations. But the interpreter of Boyka is also a great fan of action movies and Kung Fu and he cherished the dream of becoming an actor since his childhood and long evenings spent in front of the TV watching Bruce Lee movies.

World Revealed:

In parallel to his training sessions, the young man had a role for acting classes at Sutton Coldfield College then at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. Scott Adkins was finally spotted in the early 2000s by Hong Kong Stuntman Association’s director Wei Tung and British-born Hong Kong film expert Bey Logan. The latter noticed the young man’s imposing stature and martial arts skill and offered him his first role in Extreme Challenge, a Hong Kong Kung Fu film. The young man will then work in Hong Kong as a professional stuntman for Western actors while doing small roles on British television.

The year 2003 will finally mark a turning point in the career of Scott Adkins since he will meet the director Isaac Florentine who offers him a role in the war film Special Forces. The Israeli director was so impressed by Scott’s acting and athletic abilities that he made him his favourite actor. When Florentine was offered the directing to the sequel of the fighting film Undisputed, he chose Scott Adkins to play one of the two main roles. The young athlete will have to put himself in the shoes of Yuri Boyka, a Russian prisoner who fights in illegal MMA matches between prisoners organised under the leadership of the prison management.

World Revealed:

The film was very well received by the public and even by the critics of action movies who are not known for their complacency towards the directors. They even went so far as to sing its praises arguing that this feature film which received a 4 out 5 star rating was the first green martial arts film of 2007 and Isaac Florentine’s best to date. The success of Undisputed was probably due to its impeccable direction but also to its performers with Scott Adkins at the top of the list who made a lasting impression in his role as a sadistic and extremely brutal prisoner.

The role of villain of the film, however, did not harm the character of Yuri Boyka. They’re all without exceptions found very charismatic and endowed with an animal magnetism. Sensing the potential windfall, the producers naturally decided to release the sequel, bringing back the duo Isaac Florentine and Scott Adkins, but this time giving the latter the lead role.

World Revealed:

In Undisputed 3, it is indeed Yuri Boyka who takes the lead and this time it was no longer him the villain. The film is a real worldwide success and quickly takes in the very close circle of the cult films as of their release. All the fans of fight movies love this movie and for good reason. All the actors of the movie are experienced stuntmen and great specialists in martial arts. The sublime choreography of the fights has been calculated to the millimeter and the action is breathtaking and continues, hardly giving the audience time to get bored. Overnight the character of Yuri Boyka has become the idol of young people and martial arts fans around the world. His popularity is, of course, explained by the fact that he is an incredible fighter but the third opus of the saga shows us a more human and warmer aspect of the character. The sadistic prisoner who kills his opponents without the slightest gribble is gone for the new Yuri Boyka is a humble who only wishes to be redeemed from his sins. A human fighter after all. He is just like the emblematic heroes of action movies such as Jean-Claude Van Damme or Tony Jaa. Their recipe works with success and the film propels the actor to a worldwide recognition of his talent. The Facebook page dedicated to Yuri Boyka has more than 8 million followers and the actor’s Instagram account has 2.6 million followers, not to mention the multitude of unofficial pages which sometimes total up to 500,000 followers.

World Revealed:

The fourth opus of the saga Undisputed entitled Boyka: Undisputed and released in 2017 will eventually make Scott Adkins a true icon of the world of martial arts and action movies. He joins the ranks of legends who had rocked his childhood such as Brule Lee, Dolph Lundgren or Jean-Claude Van Damme. The latter will not hesitate in the least to endorse the actor and to work with him on several film projects. The 45-year-old actor will also work with the greatest figures of action films such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jason Statham and even Jet Li – a dream cast that the interpreter of Boyka could meet on the set of the franchise The Expendables in which he was invited by Stallone himself. The latter having gathered the top of the action films of the whole world could not have made this film without incorporating the one who had become a legend in the world of combat sports.

World Revealed:

Scott Adkins had reached the consecration and his character of Yuri Boyka had literally become a legend. The actor became very bankable in Hollywood and many producers and directors fought hard to have his name appear in the credits of their films. Thanks to the amazing abilities of his athletic and muscular body as well as his great mastery of mixed martial arts, the actor has made a golden place for himself in action movies. Some analysts and critics specialised in the seventh art even affirmed that he is the worthy successor of the great martial artists of history. In the emblematic scenes of the film, Yuri Boyka defines himself as the most complete fighter on the planet. And it must be said that even if it lacks a bit of humility, this statement could not be more true, because as you have seen, the 45-year-old fighter has been training assiduously since the age of 13 and has become an undisputed master in several martial arts disciplines. He is even the holder of totally secret and legendary Secular techniques that the actor went to draw from the ancestral dojos of the ninjas. Scott Adkins has already revealed some of these techniques notably in the films Ninja and its sequel Ninja: Shadow of A Tear directed by his friend Isaac Florentine. In these films, with a refined realisation, the fans of the genre and the specialists of Ninjutsu did not fail to notice the subtle references to the dark world of ninjas and shinobis. But it is especially the sublime choreography of aerial fights and the use of the ancient ninja weapons and techniques which made this film and its sequel incredible masterpieces of action cinema.

World Revealed:
